Requesting Public Records from LOUISIANA MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIOIN (LMVC)

Method of Access:

Requests are made by either mailing the LMVC Public Records Request Form(s) to:

General:              The LMVC processes public records requests during regular business hours each business day. The Louisiana Public Records Law is LRS-R.S. 44.1 et seq.

Requirements:    All requests for copies of LMVC public records must be completed using the LMVC Public Records Request Form (see link below) and must comply with the following:

                  (1) Include the name of the person requesting the public record.

                  (2) Include the list of clearly identified LMVC public records being requested.

                  (3) Circle your choice of delivery option(s) found in the Instruction on the LMVC Public Records Request form.

    LMVC's RESPONSE TO REQUEST:

    Once the request is received by the LMVC, it will be reviewed to determine if the requested records can be disclosed (exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays, and legal public holidays).

    If the requested records are exempt from disclosure, the requestor will be notified by certified mail of the determination and the reasons for it.

    If the requested records can be disclosed, the requestor will receive a "Notice of Costs for Copies of Public Records" by email, mail or fax.

    Costs due are payable upon receipt of the Notice of Costs for Copies of Public Records notice. If payment is not received within ten business days after the notice is sent, the requestor must submit a new public records request.
